Salt Lake City toddler killed in cement truck wreck

The family of a girl killed in a two-vehicle accident is now dedicating their efforts to making sure the intersection where the accident occurred becomes safer for drivers. With the help of local officials, the toddler's grandparents hope they can enact positive change on Salt Lake City roads.

Recently, the woman and her two kids were driving when a cement truck struck their vehicle while they were trying to turn left. As a result of the truck accident, the two children, a two-year-old girl and a seven-month-old boy, and their mother were all hurt in the collision. The young boy suffered minor injuries, while his mother and sister suffered more serious injuries. Though she received treatment at a local hospital, the little girl did not survive her injuries. Since the accident, the mother has undergone multiple surgeries.

Two Salt Lake City boys injured in hit-and-run accident

Drivers have a lot to be responsible for when they get behind the wheel. In residential areas it's not uncommon for children to dart into the street, so drivers should exercise caution in those situations. A recent Salt Lake City pedestrian accident has left two boys injured and authorities looking for answers.

Two brothers were looking for their older brother in the late evening. The 7-year-old and 11-year-old boys thought their brother might be at a nearby store, so they tried to cross the street. They didn't see an oncoming van, which hit both boys. The van's driver fled the scene and still has not been located. Thankfully, neither of the children sustained serious injuries, but they still went to a local hospital to receive treatment.

Motorcycle crash leaves Utah man in critical condition

The open road is full of potential danger. This is especially true for motorcyclists. A Utah man suffered severe injuries as a result of a recent motorcycle accident. Investigators are looking into the details of the crash, but have learned that a car struck the man on the motorcycle after failing to see him.

The accident occurred during the middle of the afternoon as the motorcyclist was cruising down the westbound lane of a local road. A sedan was exiting a parking lot and pulling into the road attempting to take a left turn, but the motorcycle hit the back end of the car. The 35-year-old motorcyclist tried to stop, but could not do so. The man was thrown from his motorcycle and suffered major head trauma, which forced the emergency workers to airlift him to the hospital.

Police officer hits Salt Lake City teen in pedestrian accident

A teenage Salt Lake City girl was seriously injured in a pedestrian accident involving a Unified Police officer last week. The Salt Lake City Police Department said that the accident is under investigation.

According to officials, the 13-year-old girl was walking with friends on a poorly-lit street in a residential area in Millcreek around 9:20 p.m. when the accident occurred. Apparently, the girl was hit by the police officer when she attempted to cross a street to meet her father who was waiting in a car.

Proposed change in Utah liquor laws sparks public safety concern

Utah has long been known for having the nation's lowest drinking-related car accidents. This fact is a point of pride for state public safety officials. However, a recent suggested change to liquor laws may change that reputation. Critics of changes to existing laws fear that accidents caused by drunk drivers will increase as a result of this proposal. Lawmakers in Salt Lake City are weighing changes to how the state manages liquor sales.

Currently, the state regulates the sale of liquor by selling it at state-run stores. Some lawmakers suggest the publicly-owned liquor store model should shift toward privately operated stores. The plan would allow private parties to enter into a contract with the state in order to run liquor stores.

3 semitrailers involved in Utah crash; several injured

Accidents involving semitrailers are radically different from those between smaller vehicles. Because of their enormous size, these vehicles can cause a significant amount of damage. A car or similar-sized passenger vehicle simply can't hold up to the impact of a semitrailer, and serious injuries and deaths are common in these types of collisions. But even if the crash involves two large semis of the same size, the amount of damage can be high and injuries are likely.

A recent truck accident in Blue Creek, Utah, demonstrated this fact. A semi pulling a single trailer was hit by one towing an empty tanker-trailer. According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the tanker jackknifed just before it hit the slower-moving trailer. Both trucks were in or near the emergency lane when another semi lost control and jackknifed. That third truck, which was pulling a box trailer, lost control and slid into the tanker truck.

Fatal car accidents in Utah at lowest rate in four decades

The Utah Department of Transportation and the Utah Highway Patrol have reported that fatalities from car accidents are the lowest they've been in four decades, since 1974. Although officials say they won't be satisfied until the death count is down to zero, it's always good news when fewer people lose their lives on the road.

The annual traffic statistics were released last Thursday. The total number of traffic fatalities for 2011 in the state was 233, just two less than the previous year, but 20 percent lower than 2006's count. Some counties, though, such as Weber, Davis and Morgan, saw more deaths than the previous year. Salt Lake County topped the list at 62 deaths.

Utah boy killed, rest of family seriously injured in car accident

A fatal car accident is a devastating event for a family. The loss of a child takes an extreme emotional toll on parents, as well as a financial one due to funeral and burial expenses. Even more tragic is an accident that physically injures an entire family, as was the case in a Salt Lake City accident on Christmas Eve.

A family of four was traveling in their station wagon about 6 p.m. that evening when an oncoming SUV hopped the median and collided head-on with their car. The station wagon caught fire after the impact. The entire family was rushed to a hospital, where the couple's 18-month-old son died in his parents' arms after it became clear that his injuries were too severe for him to recover.

Unscheduled oil change: Car crashes into Jiffy Lube

Several people suffered serious injuries when an auto accident occurred on Dec. 11 in Salt Lake City. One witness reports that the car crash occurred when a sport utility vehicle drove through an intersection against a red light. The car then struck at least two other vehicles before it hurtled into one of the work bays in a nearby Jiffy Lube. Workers and customers scampered out of the way, though two were struck and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the SUV had two children in the car with her at the time of the accident, though neither was injured. The driver was not injured, but another woman in the SUV was taken to the hospital.

Salt Lake City police are investigating the cause of the accident. At least six witnesses have come forward to assist them in determining who was at fault in this collision. Though no official cause has yet been reported, it certainly appears as if the SUV driver caused or substantially contributed to the auto accident.

Car accident leaves mother and two sons injured

Obviously, car accidents can sometimes cause serious injuries. This is particularly upsetting when the accident involves a child. On November 30, a young boy was taken to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake County with serious injuries suffered in a car accident about 4:30 pm.

The mother of the boy was driving a Subaru legacy, and according to the Ogden Police, she stopped at the Wall Avenue stop sign while heading west on 4th Street. Thereafter, she was in the process of making a left turn when a northbound Dodge struck her car.
